Yamaha "Akira Jimbo" maple, 7" x 13"

 

 This is a limited production run of the Akira Jimbo signature model snare drum with a maple shell, instead of beech like the current production models.  Contrary to the odd proportions of this drum, it plays very smooth and is very warm sounding - plenty of depth and crack at the same time.  I find it's best use in an "unforgiving" room where most snare drums would be too cutting or harsh sounding.  A very versatile drum that gets plenty of use, and the subtle white sparkle-like finish is stunning
