1985 Yamaha Recording Custom, birch, 7" x 14"

 

 Yamaha came up with this great instrument in the mid 1980’s.  They incorporated a 7" shell for extra depth and warmth, but constructed it out of birch for more presence and high-end attack.  Add to that an extended gate snare system and high tension single lugs, and I have myself a great instrument for all occasions.  This drum still gets much use by me today, and is still one of the most versatile snare drums I have.
